Australian Battery Materials Screening Case Study: Four Teflon-Coated Inline Vibratory Screens for High-Throughput Scalping

An Australian battery materials customer ordered four Teflon-coated vibrating screens from our company to remove foreign particles and lumps during powder processing. Each unit features a single-deck inline design, dual horizontal explosion-proof vibration motors, and Teflon coatings on the screen frame and bottom cover to reduce direct contact between the material and the underlying metal.

1. Project Overview

The equipment is designed for check screening of battery materials, allowing particles within the specified screen aperture size to pass through while retaining larger contaminants and lumps.

The configuration primarily targets three materials: lithium carbonate, lithium iron phosphate, and lithium hydroxide. Screen specifications and throughput must be determined according to the actual material being processed.

2. Customer Requirements

During discussions, the customer highlighted three priorities:

  • High-throughput scalping: Remove foreign particles and lumps efficiently while maintaining material flow between production stages.
  • Material contact protection: To meet strict requirements for metallic contamination control, the customer specified Teflon coatings on the screen frame and bottom cover to reduce direct contact between the powder and the underlying metal.
  • Suitability for the production environment: Use explosion-proof vibration motors and select screen mesh and seals according to the material and operating conditions.

The surface treatment of the screen frame and bottom cover was the main customization requirement.

3. Our Solution

We selected a 304 stainless steel structure with Teflon coatings on key contact surfaces. The stainless steel provides structural support, while the coating forms a physical barrier over the specified surfaces.

Dual horizontal explosion-proof vibration motors drive the single-deck sàng rung nội tuyến. Material that passes through the mesh exits through the bottom outlet, while oversized contaminants and lumps are retained.

Screen material, aperture size, and seals are selected according to the powder and operating conditions. The motors’ explosion-protection rating must match the installation environment, with corresponding electrical and grounding provisions.

5. Equipment Features

1. Reduced Contact with the Underlying Metal

The Teflon coating on the screen frame and bottom cover provides a barrier over these surfaces, addressing the customer’s material purity requirements.

2. Chemical Resistance

When intact and compatible with the process medium and operating temperature, the coating provides additional protection for the covered components.

3. Nonstick Surfaces for Easier Cleaning

Teflon helps reduce powder adhesion, making residual material easier to remove from the screen frame and bottom cover. Actual performance depends on the powder properties and operating conditions.

4. Single-Deck Inline Design for Check Screening

The dual-motor, single-deck inline configuration supports rapid, high-throughput scalping. Actual capacity depends on the material properties and screen specifications. For more information on working principles and typical applications, see our inline vibratory screen guide.

5. Explosion-Proof Vibration Motors

The motor protection rating is selected to match the production environment. Explosion-proof motors are one part of the equipment configuration and do not replace other required equipment or site-level explosion-protection measures.

Routine maintenance should include checking the coating for scratches, wear, or peeling. Hard tools should not be used to scrape coated surfaces.

6. Customer Feedback and Project Confirmation

The customer ordered four units and specified Teflon coatings on the screen frames and bottom covers. The project reflects the customer’s focus on screening capacity, contact materials, and suitability for the production environment.

Post-installation throughput data and user feedback have not yet been provided. Screening performance, ease of cleaning, and coating condition remain subject to follow-up.
